The Making of
The Odd Potato:
The Broadway Album

Producing the CD was a labor of love for all involved. The plan was simple. First, a select group of Broadway stars received personal invitations from Variety, The Children’s Charity, Tent 8 in Kansas City.
Variety volunteers asked each celebrity to participate in a special fundraiser with a “Show Biz” theme. Individually, each actor possessed a unique theatrical quality, but all shared the glory of being a revered Tony Award winner.

Before each official session, actors received their parts in the mail. Many immediately contacted musical director, Jay Kerr, to “catch an extra rehearsal” before coming into the recording studio. Variety is especially grateful to both Quad and Tabby Studios in New York City for making every session a fruitful and pleasurable afternoon for the stars.

Joshua Sherman in the control room.
Once at the recording studio, Producer (and Variety Volunteer) Joshua Sherman put it all together. He directed the Broadway performers, guided Grammy Award-winning mix engineer Ben Arrindell, who was assisted by engineers Mark Grey, Miki Tustsumi, Diana Yeps, and Jewelz Penzellna, and made sure every session ran like clockwork. A good time was had by all as the music and narrative of Broadway Sings The Odd Potato came to life on CD.
While audiences are already familiar with these extraordinary Tony Award winners, now the whole world will know about the generosity of these world-class performers who donated their time and talent for children with special needs. Yes, it’s true – Broadway Salutes Variety, but Variety of Kansas City also wishes to salute our stars. Each is blessed with enormous talent and an even bigger heart!
A portion of all proceeds from The Odd Potato: The Broadway Album
benefits children with special needs through Variety – The Children's Charity.
